Bike Week

This week was bike week in Fort Collins. I tried to be good and ride my bike every day...I just skipped out on Friday and drove to work instead:(
Thursday night was a bike around old town to city park, then to New Belgium Brewery for a movie and some beers-all proceeds went to FC Bikes, which is cool.
Friday night was a bike and jazz fest at our small "botanical" gardens. It was a beautiful night. We brought a picnic of fried chicken and cookies...it was perfect.

New Hairdo

This is what happens to your hair when you sit under the grill all night and lick bacon grease!!! It just makes it totally unmanageable. She may be 9 years old, but she still gets into trouble! Little jerk got me out of bed twice last night until I figured out why she needed out so much!

FINALLY!!!

I can't believe I forgot to tell everyone...
After 10 1/2 years (yes years!!) I ended my tour of shoe slinging...Yes, no more Al Bundy jokes directed towards me! I am DONE! No more annoying customers who expect you to know exactly what they want by reading their minds...
no more old lady hammer toes, or disgusting old men yellow toe nails...(yes I had a gross job)
NO MORE SMELLY FEET!!!
I finally have weekends!!! I really have not had weekends to enjoy since my sophomore year of college, I could take some off here and there but it was always a hassle. Now I will work the occasional Saturday for the clinic, but that's it! Oh the joy!!!

Tuesday's puppies

Yesterday was another crazy day...
We were all "on call" Monday night just in case one of our clients dogs, a Scottish Terrier, went into labor that night. I guess she had a problem in the past and now can only have puppies through c-sections. I got great sleep that night, basically waking up every hour from 2am on, worried that I had missed the call...even though my phone was right next to my head.
I got the call at 5:45am, only about 20 minutes before I wake up anyway, but it still sucked. She had 7 puppies, 5 boys-2 girls, all of them made it and looked pretty healthy! It's scary and exciting to help with c-sections. Getting them going is the nerve racking part, hearing the squeaks is the best part! She is coming in Friday for dewclaw removal, I'll ask if I can take a picture of them so everyone can see. They are so cute!!
The other crazy thing about this breeder, she had another female go into labor 20 minutes after we started on the 1st one. The other female went to CSU and they did a c-section there...she had 7 puppies too, but 5 girls-2 boys!

A day in the life...

I don't know if I have ever really given anyone a good picture of the randomness of a crazy work day for me...today was a great example.
I was the tech in charge of anesthesia today...I calculate the doses, draw up the drugs, and monitor the anesthesia, and then later in the day I help with appointments. Some days I am pretty much only on appointments. I work at a great clinic, we all really try to help each other out so no one gets screwed...but inevitably it happens :(
So big moments of my day today...
1- I extracted a tooth on a dog (which actually makes me a little queasy and I still need a lot of help doing)
2- Came back from lunch, full, and immediately had to "sort" through diarrhea looking for tapeworms ( I know glamorous!) FYI-they look like little rice granules around your dogs butt, or on their bedding...but dont really worry too much unless your dog eats rabbits and such...GROSS (sorry)
3- Had my 2 year "review" got a raise!!!
4- Finished my review early because I had to help the doc euthanize a goat! She was very sweet and 15 years old! WOW!
5- Number 4 is weird because we only see dogs and cats at our clinic...but they are a good client of ours, and we make exceptions.6- Kissed a tiny little pug puppy... THE BEST PART OF THE JOB!!

7- Came home and tried to explain all of that to Matt...it usually isn't in outline form for him...more jumbled and really doesn't make any sense... But he's good to me and he listens, then gives me a beer ;) Then he passes out due to exhaustion from listening to me...

New Release

Well they have finally done it. New Belgium has started producing Fat Tire in cans. I wasn't really sure if I would like it, but its actually not bad. Its just weird to see...

They must be stopped...

My parents were watching a show...maybe on Animal Planet. Anyway, these crazy "breeders" or whatever you might call them decided to do what the dog world has been doing for a long time and make a weird "designer" cat! They took a Sphynx...yes they're real :( (Mr. Bigglesworth from Austin Powers)
And breed them with a Munchkin...which are real too. Like the dachshund of the cat world, pretty cute :)

This is what they got! :(

Poor thing...

He's all growns up now!

My little Carl is getting to be such a big boy! He hacked up his first hairball today...I'm just so proud. Matty told me I should take a picture of it to share with everyone, I thought I would spare everyone that lovely picture ;) Instead I'll give you a picture of what he must have felt like right before he blew...

I went to the dentist today for the first time in about 10 years! Gross right? Well I definitely recommend not waiting that long...I am just sitting here with my numb face and tongue praying that I don't injure myself. I had a few fillings on my right side put in today, and I have to go back for my second visit in one week, so they can take care of my left side. When all is said and done I will be $1200 in the hole :( Fantastic!

Taste of Fort Collins

This annual festival was last weekend, Matt and I went yesterday with my family for fathers day. Its pretty fun, local restaurants and new ones moving into town will come down and serve a few items off of their menu. Its great to go down and sample places that I have never been, without the commitment of a whole meal. One place I am very excited about is Rodizio, a brazilian steakhouse...you know the kind where they slice the meat right off the sword that they cooked it on!! It doesnt open till November, but trust me I will be there! We're getting pretty trendy here in this small town ;)

Flowers

We did take some time out from torturing Carl to plant some flowers in the barrel on our front porch. I found the cutest plant. The flowers are super tiny in a little cluster and in one of those clusters they are red, orange, yellow, and pink! Its called Confetti Lantana (I know nothing about flowers, Im sure everyone else has heard of these) They are so cute!

Poor Carl

My poor cat...he has to put up with the two most annoying nerdy owners. But we just cant help ourselves it's just so much fun to torture him ;)Super Carl!!
(and yes this is what we do Saturday mornings, we need help)

Baby Pies

I figure I'll steal Matty's thunder and post this...We have a huge old apple tree in our back yard, and the other day I noticed that we have little tiny apples already starting to grow...or as Matt refers to them, "Baby Pies"Last year we had so many we had to freeze some, and we still have them in our freezer. But later in the season when they are ready, his parents come up and they have "Apple day" Last year they made pie, butter, and sauce! YUM! I cant wait for this year, maybe there will be a new invention.

Go Rockies!

We went to a Rockies game this weekend. I think its been at least 2-3 years since I've been to a game. My friend Courtney got tickets from her work, so we sat "Club Level", like were fancy! I tell you, that is the only way to go, there was no lines for the bathroom, and they were clean! And the game was fun! We won, which always makes the game better...even though I really didnt watch a whole lot of it. People watching/giggling is way more fun :) Thank you again C! Next time maybe we'll be in the Migitasia section ;)

30th

I had a very nice 30th birthday! Thank you to everyone for the calls, and the messages, the cards/presents, and the drunken good times!
I guess you are never to old to have the cops called to your house cause your being too loud ;) I think they were a little suprised when they saw who they were "busting". Never the less we made everyone go inside to avoid the $1,000 ticket!
Last night we went out to eat at one of my favorite places, had a few too many drinks and felt like crap a little today. Im definetly too old for that now, I just dont recover like I used to. Now its back to the norm, paying bills :(

Birthday buddies

Happy 30th Birthday Lola!!!
Who knew after all these years a friendship based on the fact that we had the same birthday and were born in California is still going strong :)
I miss you like crazy! I hope you have a wonderful birthday, I wish we could have celebrated together!
