Not good...

I have been absent from blogging this April with no excuses except that I am lazy...unfortunately my first post this month sucks.
Riley has a tumor on her heart. We found this out yesterday when she collapsed after playing frisbee. I called my boss and he came into work Sunday afternoon to look at her...where she collapsed again, totally unaware of her surroundings and struggling to breath (so it seemed) We then raced her to CSU Vet Hospital and they found she had a pericardial effusion, where fluid (blood) has filled the space between her heart and pericardial sac, which is not supposed to have any kind of space there and makes it almost impossible for the heart to beat. So they took a needle and drained the blood off of her heart. Further diagnostic testing found the reason...a tumor. Unfortunately 85% of the time this kind of tumor is a hemangiosarcoma which is a very aggressive cancer, and even worse there is no way to know for sure what it is without going in and doing surgery. If we do nothing the fluid can build back up in her heart again...arghhh!!!! She is only 11, she is supposed to have a good 3 to 5 years left in her, this is totally unfair, the prognosis is horrible with maybe 6 months (if we do surgery) We can get her in this Wednesday, its going to cost A TON of money...I'm not ready to lose her, its just not her time yet. We have been crying for the past two days...this sucks.

Ditto Michelle. No words can explain how much this sucks. Riley is like a child to all of us. She's my little buddy :(. I am very sorry to hear of her illness. You know we'll do whatever we can to support the family, just let us know, seriously. Best of luck with the surgery.
